Guardian Angel for Kids Writers and Illustrator Guidelines

Theme: Each issue has a theme. We will only accept material appropriate for the monthly theme.

Fiction-
Picture stories: adventure, animal, humorous, multicultural, nature/environment, problem-solving, sports. To 500 words. Character driven stories that children will be able to relate to. Send complete manuscript in the body of your e-mail. No attachments! If we receive an attachment that is not an illustration, we will not open it.

Nonfiction-
Articles may include activities, animals, arts/crafts, concept, cooking, math, nature/environment, problem-solving, science. To 500 words.  Send complete manuscript in the body of your e-mail. No attachments!

Nonfiction Parent/Teacher-
Articles on parenting, teaching, reading, writing and relating to the mission of the Guardian Angel Kids website. 700 words max.

Poetry-
Kid-oriented poetry. Poems must be well written with no forced rhyme and roll off the tongue.

Illustrators-
Most art will be done by assignment in support of features used. GAK wishes to find artists capable of illustrating children's stories and welcomes copies of work, which will remain on file. Looking for illustrations capturing children at play, reading, involved with sports, creating, etc. nature, animals.  Artwork may be submitted either hardcopy or as a .tif, .gif, .jpg or .bmp file, 1 MB or less. Illustrators may send us hard copies of their work. E-mail us at submissions@

Payment-We pay .03 cents per word for articles and stories. Poems $10. Photos-$3 each with an article. Artwork $5-25 per illustration.  Payment to illustrators remains at the discretion of the art editors. Unfortunately, at this time we cannot pay industry standard. Do not query us unless this is okay with you.

We purchase all rights. We do not use previously published material.

July – Ocean - need 1 story, 1 article, 2 poems(Sea critters)
August – Geography - need 2 articles, 2 stories
September – Back to School - need 1 story, 1 article
October- Cats - need 2 stories
November – Dreams/Gifts- everything is open
December – Christmas Theme - need 2 stories, 1 article, 1 poem
