Letter from the Poetry Editor:
Dear Readers of Guardian Angel Kids Ezine: Welcome to the July 2011 issue of Guardian Angel Kids Ezine.
I have had the pleasure of being the Poetry Editor for GAK the last few months. I love that I get to go through submissions and find gems that make the ezine shine a bit brighter each month and complement the rest of the content.
When I'm asked for advice concerning children's poetry, I always recommend that aspiring and published authors join a critique group – either online or in person. When I first started writing, I joined Yahoo Groups and I'm still actively involved with several. Groups abound for both beginners and published authors. Find an active critique group if you can, and join one that specializes in the type of writing in which you're most interested. If you meet with other writers in person, you have the luxury of asking someone else to read your poetry aloud – a useful way to find rough spots. Many times, I have caught myself forcing the rhythm of a piece to work with the way I read it.
It's important to get 'fresh eyes' on your writing before submitting. I believe that writers willing to give and receive criticism end up published much sooner and more often. You may find, as I have, that your critique buddies become great friends, too!
This month's poem, I Spy Wishes, sparkles with vivid imagery. I hope you enjoy it along with all the articles and stories in our July issue.
Until next time –
Donna J. Shepherd, Poetry Editor
